Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for providing for the placement of vascular access devices within the inpatient and outpatient hospital setting.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and medical staff to determine the most appropriate candidates for PICC insertion and provide clinical staff with education relating to the care and maintenance of the PICC lines.
  • Provides direct nursing care including assessment, plan of care, education, and evaluation for assigned patients.
  • Performs patient duties necessary to maintain the flow of patient care as well as coordinates the delivery of care provided by other care team members and disciplines.
  • Provide a full range of nursing practice guided by the American Nursing Association’s (ANA) Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice (2004) and dependent upon experience, role, and population served.
  • Primary nursing responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Standards of professional performance required include quality practice, education/competency, professional practice evaluation, collegiality, collaboration, and ethics, research/best practice integration, resource utilization and leadership (ANA, 2004).
  • Assists patients to attain or maintain optimal health, implementing a strategy of care to accomplish defined goals within the context of a patient-centered health care plan, and evaluating responses to nursing care and treatment (National Council of State Board of Nursing, 2004).
  • To provide the Clinical Directors with review of performance improvement findings and analysis of data in collaboration with the appropriate staff.
  • To assist center management with processing of unit specific duties including but not limited to orientation, education, performance improvement, timecards, policies and procedures, hearing screening, and patient follow-up.
  • Provides pre/post-operative nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process.
  • Performs within the standards of professional practice and hospital policies and procedures, is a resource person for the post anesthesia care unit.
  • Available to take call on a rotational basis as assigned and flexes with schedule as unit census requires.
  • Provides peri-operative nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process.
