About The Position

Same Day Surgery is a fast-paced environment where expert nursing skills, critical thinking, action, and timely communication are essential. The role involves being the primary point of contact for patients' care before, during, and after surgery, acting as a bridge between patients, doctors, families, and care touchpoints. The position requires educating and preparing patients for home recovery, making a positive impact during their short surgical journey. The nurse will provide patient care before and after surgery, review patient history, set up IVs, monitor vital signs, educate patients and families on home care, perform clinical documentation and assessments, monitor patients for pain or complications, and ensure adherence to infection control requirements. Collaboration with the team to meet patient needs and maintain a safe environment is crucial, ensuring continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and an exceptional patient experience.

Requirements

  • Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana and as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS and PALS certifications.
  • 2 years RN flex experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care before and after surgery, review patient history, set-up IVs, and monitor vital signs.
  • Educate and prepare patients and their families on home care after discharge.
  • Perform required clinical documentation and pre- and post-operative assessments.
  • Monitor patient after surgery for pain and/or complications and the surgery site for healing or infection following Joint Commission infection control and environment of care requirements.
  • Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required.
  • Collaborate to identify and meet the overall needs of patient care or when unable to complete assignments or perform tasks promptly, effectively, or safely.
  • Maintain and advocate a safe environment for everyone.
  • Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communications, and an exceptional experience for every patient.
  • Initiate patient and family education on the operation and post-operation care as required.
