About The Position

The Overnight PACU RN provides nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures with a 23-hour stay in an outpatient ambulatory surgery center (ASC). The role includes monitoring patients’ vital signs, managing pain, and addressing complications during the overnight postoperative period. The RN collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to support coordinated care, patient safety, comfort, and positive outcomes throughout the surgical experience.

The ASC operates Monday through Friday. Days, nights, and hours needed will vary.

Requirements

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Mississippi.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Experience in perioperative nursing or critical care nursing.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anesthesia recovery, and patient monitoring.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while maintaining attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems specific to perioperative care.
• Strong communication and patient education skills.
• Previous experience in a hospital or surgical center setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough preoperative assessments to evaluate patient readiness and identify potential risks.
• Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery, including education and reassurance.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs and anesthesia recovery status in the PACU, promptly identifying and responding to adverse reactions or complications.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed while following safety protocols.
• Accurately document patient care activities and communicate effectively with the surgical team to support continuity of care.
