About The Position

This position is for a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) in the Pre/Post Cardiac and Vascular Procedures unit, also known as the Universal Care Unit, at Glenbrook Hospital. The role involves working three 12-hour shifts from 8 AM to 8 PM, with no on-call or weekend requirements. The nurse will perform pre-procedure patient assessments, prepare patients for cardiac and vascular procedures, provide education, coordinate with medical teams, assist physicians with certain procedures, monitor patients post-procedure, manage vascular access sites, administer medications, recognize and respond to complications, document care in the electronic medical record, communicate patient status, provide discharge education, and ensure patient safety and quality standards are met.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree Nursing
  • IL RN license
  • BLS
  • ACLS within 6 months

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2+ years of Experience in Telemetry, ED, or CCU/ICU

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-procedure patient assessments, including medical history review, medication reconciliation, and baseline vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for cardiac and vascular procedures, including IV placement, lab verification, checklist completion, and procedure site preparation.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding procedure expectations, recovery process, and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Verify informed consent, allergies, NPO status, and required pre-procedure testing.
  • Coordinate with physicians, cath lab staff, and anesthesia teams to ensure patients are procedure-ready and transported on schedule.
  • Assist physicians with treatment room procedures, including Electrical Cardioversion, Transesophageal Echocardiogram, and Implantable Loop Recorder implants and explants.
  • Monitor patients in the post-procedure recovery area, including cardiac monitoring, vital signs, and access site assessments.
  • Assess and manage vascular access sites (radial or femoral), including hemostasis devices, bleeding monitoring, and complication recognition.
  • Administer ordered medications, including sedation recovery medications, analgesics, and IV fluids as appropriate.
  • Recognize and respond to post-procedure complications such as bleeding, hematoma, arrhythmias, hypotension, or contrast reactions.
  • Document clinical assessments, medications, patient education, and recovery progress in the electronic medical record.
  • Communicate patient status updates to physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Provide discharge education and instructions to patients and families, including activity restrictions, medication guidance, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure patients meet established discharge criteria prior to release or transfer to inpatient units.
  • Maintain patient safety, infection prevention, and quality standards in the prep and recovery areas.
