About The Position

With minimal supervision, the PACU staff nurse delivers direct patient care in the peri-operative period of the patient’s surgical experience through implementation of the framework of the nursing process. This nurse provides a safe, efficient, and caring environment for individual surgical patients. Functions provided by the PACU staff nurse include direct patient care in the Preoperative, Holding, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Phase II, and Pain Management areas of Surgical Services. Employees supervised include nursing assistants, unit clerks, and transportation personnel. Duties require management of confidential information concerning patient records, department documents, and hospital information. Frequent use of nursing judgment involving general policy and procedure is required. Provides input into budget needs regarding use and need of equipment, communicates with other department personnel daily, administers to patients from pediatric to geriatric ages, and performs all other duties assigned. Adheres to the principles and guidelines of McBride Orthopedic Hospital. This is a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Current License by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)
  • Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (PALS) within 3 months of employment

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience preferred.
  • Orthopedic experience helpful.
  • Computer skills and CPSI knowledge preferred.
