The Staff RN uses the nursing process to deliver nursing care to a given patient care population as it relates to the care setting. Nursing care is based on the interpretation and execution of the medical and nursing plan of treatment utilizing established procedures, standards, and protocols of individuals within the assigned work shift. The Staff RN provides nursing care to the population served in the unit. This role also involves regulating patient body temperature using warm air blankets, providing privacy, minimizing patient apprehension, obtaining patient history and consent, discussing post-op discharge plans, meeting with patients and families regarding feedback and issues, implementing service recovery strategies, ensuring patient safety, and keeping patients and families informed of surgical procedure specifics. The RN also prepares patient charts, ensuring necessary forms and test results are available prior to surgery, and completes all necessary documentation in the PAT and communication tool regarding chart readiness.
