The Anesthesia Care Nurse (ACN) coordinates anesthesia care on Labor and Delivery by serving as a liaison between labor nurses and anesthesiologists. The role manages labor epidurals, including assisting with placement, dosing, and troubleshooting. The ACN also assists the anesthesiologist with spinal and general anesthesia in the operating room for cesarean sections and other obstetrical procedures. An advanced degree is not required, and this is not a CRNA role. The ACN evaluates obstetrical patients upon admission and provides anesthesia-related education to support patients throughout the labor and delivery experience. The Labor and Delivery unit at Butterworth Hospital has 28 private birthing suites, an 11-bed triage area, three operating rooms, and five recovery bays. The hospital averages 8,000 births per year and is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Two core schedule options are listed, and the position is part-time, with 24 scheduled hours per week, 12-hour shifts, two days worked, and every other weekend.
