About The Position

The RN Post Surgical Day Shift role is critical in providing comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from surgical procedures during daytime hours. This position focuses on monitoring patients' post-operative status, managing pain, preventing complications, and facilitating a smooth transition from surgery to recovery. The nurse will collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure individualized care plans are effectively implemented. Additionally, the role involves educating patients and their families about post-surgical care, medication management, and discharge instructions to promote optimal recovery outcomes. Ultimately, the RN in this role plays a vital part in enhancing patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction throughout the post-surgical recovery process.

Requirements

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong understanding of post-operative care protocols and patient monitoring.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in post-surgical or acute care nursing preferred but not mandatory.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
• Advanced certifications such as Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) or Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA).
• Experience working in a surgical or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and clinical documentation software.
• Excellent communication and patient education skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients' vital signs, surgical sites, and overall condition following surgery to detect any signs of complications or adverse reactions.
• Administer prescribed medications, including pain management therapies, and document patient responses accurately.
• Coordinate with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals to update care plans and communicate patient progress.
• Provide patient and family education regarding post-operative care, wound management, activity restrictions, and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain detailed and accurate medical records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and institutional policies.
• Respond promptly to patient needs and emergencies, implementing appropriate interventions as necessary.
• Assist with mobility and rehabilitation activities to support patient recovery and prevent post-surgical complications such as deep vein thrombosis.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and supportive environment that promotes healing and comfort for post-surgical patients.
