About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) nursing to provide high-quality care to patients recovering from surgical and diagnostic procedures. The RN will be responsible for monitoring patients emerging from anesthesia, assessing recovery status, managing pain control, and ensuring patient safety throughout the post-operative recovery process. The ideal candidate will have strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience, expertise in IV insertion and phlebotomy, experience with conscious sedation monitoring, and excellent clinical assessment skills.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) from an accredited nursing program required.
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
  • Primary Source Verification of RN License through NYSED required.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of IV insertion experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of phlebotomy experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of conscious sedation experience required.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • PACU or Recovery Room nursing experience.
  • Surgical recovery care experience.
  • Post-anesthesia patient monitoring.
  • Airway management and emergency response experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and sedation.
  • Monitor airway patency, respiratory status, vital signs, and neurological function.
  • Assess patient recovery progress and identify changes in condition.
  • Ensure safe transition of care from procedural areas to recovery and discharge phases.
  • Administer medications and pain management therapies as prescribed.
  • Perform IV insertion and phlebotomy procedures.
  • Monitor and manage patients receiving conscious sedation.
  • Implement post-operative nursing interventions based on patient needs.
  • Identify and respond promptly to post-operative complications and emergencies.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, procedural staff, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Communicate patient status updates and recovery progress effectively.
  • Educate patients and families regarding recovery expectations, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record (EMR) documentation.
  • Follow facility policies, infection prevention guidelines, and patient safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional nursing standards.
