About The Position

Summit Medical Center is looking for a PACU Registered Nurse to join their Surgery Team at their Edmond hospital. Summit Medical Center has an outstanding reputation for quality services and is committed to providing a satisfying work experience for its employees. The PACU RN delivers nursing care in the Post-Operative Care Unit (PACU) to patients in the postoperative phase of treatment. This role involves assessing the patient’s condition and readiness for discharge. The staffing model is based on a teamwork concept, meaning employees may be cross-trained in other clinical areas and may perform duties beyond their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Oklahoma
  • Current BLS certification
  • ACLS required within one year of employment
  • Previous PACU experience required
  • Nursing care of the postoperative patient
  • Operation of vital signs monitors
  • Assessment Skills
  • IV Therapy
  • Principles of Standard Precaution
  • CPR
  • Ability to adequately assess, diagnose, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition
  • Compliance with the attendance policy
  • Compliance with continuing and mandatory education programs
  • Possesses appropriate communication skills to practice collaborative nursing
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes
  • Ability to read and write (legibly)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that the PACU has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all times
  • Ensures supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order
  • Admits the patient to the unit and monitors recovery from anesthesia and surgical procedure
  • Makes initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient
  • Follows and implements physician’s orders and performs all required nursing activities
  • Explains nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety
  • Identifies patient’s physical and mental status
  • Monitors the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist
  • Documents accurately in the patient’s medical record the care received and the progress in the recovery process
  • Assures that the patient fits the documented criteria prior to discharge
  • Gives patients and family members emotional support as necessary
  • Performs other duties s assigned or requested
  • Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards
  • Maintains department records, reports, and files as required
  • Maintains and cares for department equipment and supplies
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business
  • Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other center employees
  • Documents concisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy
  • Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and center business
  • Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration)
