About The Position

The RN Operating Room provides nursing care before, during, and after surgery. The role requires expert technical skills, teamwork, and communication, and serves as an information link among the patient, surgeon, anesthesiologist, and other surgical care touchpoints. The nurse supports safe, coordinated care and an exceptional patient experience in the operating environment.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.

Responsibilities

Prepare patients for surgery by reviewing their history and providing care and support, including supplies, medication administration, positioning, vital-sign monitoring, and health assessments.
Complete required clinical documentation and postoperative assessments.
Monitor patients after surgery for pain or complications and monitor surgical sites for healing or infection in accordance with Joint Commission infection-control and environment-of-care requirements.
Perform CPR or other emergency measures when required.
Collaborate to identify and meet overall patient-care needs, including communicating when assignments or tasks cannot be completed promptly, effectively, or safely.
Maintain and advocate for a safe environment.
Ensure continuity of care, efficient throughput, consistent communication, and an exceptional patient experience.
Initiate patient and family education about the operation and postoperative care as required.
