About The Position

The Registered Nurse on the Mothers/Baby Unit provides compassionate, comprehensive care to mothers and newborns, supporting their well-being during the post-birth period. The RN works closely with the multidisciplinary care team, assists with breastfeeding, and empowers new mothers as they build a bond with their newborns. The role also includes maintaining a safe care environment, following department protocols and regulatory requirements, and contributing to quality improvement and professional learning.

Requirements

Current nursing license to practice in Louisiana, as defined by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
PALS certification required within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

Maintain a safe environment for patients and others by implementing infection control practices and complying with regulatory standards.
Perform technical procedures safely and efficiently in accordance with department protocols and legal requirements.
Participate in performance improvement initiatives, quality improvement activities, and review and audit processes while following organizational policies and procedures.
Use the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Coordinate and delegate patient care activities and communicate clearly with interdisciplinary team members.
Collaborate with team members to identify and implement ways to improve patient care and education.
Provide exemplary customer service, address patient concerns or complaints, and use the service recovery process.
Maintain current nursing knowledge and skills through professional development and participation in continuing education and professional organizations.
Share knowledge and skills with team members and assist in alternative areas when needed.
Provide compassionate care and assist mothers with breastfeeding.
