About The Position

Within the framework of the objectives and policies established by the Director of Nursing Medical and the Deputy Director of Nursing of Franklin Primary Health Center, Inc., plans and coordinates nursing services with those of the medical and administrative systems. Actively participate as a member of the Center's management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with particular reference to the role, functions, and operations of the Center's nursing services. Maintain nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training clinical staff. Ensure that nurses are current in competencies, assessments, licensure, certifications, and other annual training.

Requirements

  • Maintains current Alabama Nursing License and CPR certification.
  • Remain abreast of current employee health practices and guidelines through continuing education classes, journals and professional organizations.
  • Attends continuing education related to infection control practices, monitoring and surveillance of infectious disease processes within an organization.
  • Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality.
  • Observes and supports Center policy.
  • Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.
  • Carries out additional duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
  • Must provide the very best customer satisfaction to staff, visitors, guests, and patients at all time in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide assistance in resolving customers’ problems relating to employee services.
  • Coordinates efforts and interfaces with other departments to resolve problems.

  • Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA Privacy Rule) policies and procedures.
  • Must successfully complete Privacy Rule compliance training annually or as revisions are made to the policies and procedures.
  • Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by learning to protect FPHC patient’s medical privacy.
  • Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by appropriately maintaining our patient information in compliance with national standards.
  • Must comply with Privacy Rule guidelines by providing appropriate security of FPHC patient records.

Responsibilities

  • Directs and supervises the professional nursing services and oversees the provision of patient care through nursing supervisors.
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the provision of nursing services in assigned units.
  • Evaluates nursing services in assigned areas and consults with CMO to relate these activities to total medical services.
  • Interprets clinical policies, evaluates nursing staff, plans orientation and in-service education programs for nursing personnel, and directs the procurement of supplies and equipment for assigned units.
  • Develops standards for the nursing department and coordinates implementation of nursing quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains adequate nursing and allied health staffing for all medical units.
  • Delegate tasks: scheduling for crash cart checks, o 2 tanks servicing, narcotic box inspection, refrigerator inventory, supply room inventory, medication room inventory and IV cart checks.
  • Develops and implements long and short range plans for the nursing department.
  • Provides current training information to nursing department employees and other medical staff, (i.e. continuing education units; in-service education seminars, current events).
  • Conducts and/or assists in completing surveys, UDS Reports, and census updates.
  • Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Nursing Department.
  • Recommends training requirements to keep the staff at the highest level of skill necessary to meet the Center's needs and objectives.
  • May recommend that personnel be hired or removed form the department.
  • Ensures adequate nursing coverage in all clinic areas.
  • Monitors, approves/disapprove requested leave periods.
  • Maintains documentation of all requested/approved/disapproved nursing time and attendance.
  • Other duties at the discretion of the Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
