About The Position

Serves as a member of the Behavioral Health Management team. The Manager has accountability for the effective and efficient operation of the MHU Unit. The Manager spends 20% of the time in direct staff supervision and 80% of the time in administrative duties. The Nurse Manager responsibilities include maintaining a high patient satisfaction, ensuring that clinical operations are effective, and overseeing hiring and retention of staff. The Manager will educate staff on organizational goals, patient safety, quality of care, and regulatory requirements. Participate and engage staff in LEAN activities and goals. Collaborate with staff and physicians on achieving throughput metrics. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary leadership team and unit staff to ensure department productivity and budget standards are maintained. Coordinates and conducts unit staff meetings with collaboration of the Director. Communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with the Director Achievements and concerns related to patient safety, quality, patient loyalty, associate engagement and physician satisfaction. Exercise a leadership style that fosters an environment where the concepts of positive peer relations, team building, collaboration, achievement of consensus and cooperation are integrated within the health team. Develops and supports employees at all levels in a supportive atmosphere, which is open to ideas. Plans for, directs, and/or participates in regularly scheduled meetings and conferences with staff. Informs staff of organizational changes. Seeks to provide a link between management and staff. Interprets organizational goals. Utilizes motivational dynamics to maintain productivity and morale. Allocates responsibility and authority appropriately. Maintains accountability for work by staff and self. Seeks to maintain professional identity of team members. Attends Committee meetings as required Takes timely and appropriate actions to resolve identified issues. Exercises patience and control, especially in difficult or stressful situations; resolves conflicts appropriately. Quality Management Establishes and monitors indicators for quality outcomes. Effectively assesses outcomes from care teams. Collaborates with physicians and quality coordinators to review outcomes and establish targets. Performance Management Oversees the administration of the employee performance review process and supports the process of peer review. Ensures competency of staff and addresses defined learning needs by utilizing appropriate resources within the Patient Care Services and throughout St. Peters Health Care Partners. Ensures appropriate training and skill development is available for professional and technical staff. Financial Management Establishes master staffing based upon historical data, unit of service forecasts, census, acuity, and care hours per patient day requirements. Monitors trends and recommends staffing adjustments based on them. Submits data and rationale to support recommendations. Monitors hours worked, including overtime, for all unit/center personnel. Monitors and controls salary and non-salary budgets and justifies variances. Actively participates in the budget process of Patient Care Services. Makes recommendation for new programs and/or program changes with supporting data justifying the need. Develops and monitors Payroll, Revenue and Expense Budgets based on program of care requirements. Anticipates variances and provides explanation within the required time. Projects Capital Equipment needs and makes recommendation with justification for acquisition. Interprets budget to staff and sets expectations for staff involvement in cost containment. Demonstrates ability to set future fiscal priorities utilizing current budget data. Utilizes budget data in decision making. Develops and monitors Payroll, Revenue and Expense Budgets based on program of care requirements. Anticipates variances and provides explanation within the required time. Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized program in professional nursing.
  • Current New York State license.
  • Baccalaureate in nursing.
  • 3 years of relevant nursing experience with documented leadership ability.
  • Broad base of knowledge related to clinical specialization, human resource management, fiscal management, customer relations and performance improvement techniques.
  • Responsibility and authority for decision making within the area of accountability.
  • Ability to work with many internal and external customers to problem solve.
  • Ability to communicate with the Director with updates on department changes.
