About The Position

The Registered Nurse assesses, plans, directs, implements, and assists to provide quality patient care for assigned patients. This role involves planning, assessing, directing, implementing, and providing quality patient care for assigned patients, including modifying nursing care, administering medications, and discharge planning. The nurse will provide education tailored to individual patient needs using the nursing process and in accordance with policies and procedures. Key responsibilities include monitoring changes in patient condition, recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs, intervening when necessary, performing complete data collection, collaborating with patients on treatment plan goals, and discharging patients with a written plan. Family participation is encouraged as appropriate. The role also involves accurate documentation in medical records, utilizing multi-disciplinary team strategies, minimizing risks of infection, harm, or injury, and maintaining accurate reports and records. The nurse will work collaboratively with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors, anticipating deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and taking appropriate action. Patient treatment plans will be modified as indicated by patient responses and conditions. Collaboration with patient care team members on the patient care plan, including consistent use of hand-off communication, is essential. The role also includes conducting and coordinating patient care and transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable, and performing additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures. Requirements

Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days.
4881 RN I: 6 months -1.99 years of relevant experience.
4882 RN II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
4883 RN III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
4884 RN IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
Completes AAP Neonatal Resuscitation within 3 months of hire date and maintains credentialing throughout employment.
Must successfully complete, pass, and maintain all applicable and requisite training as established by each department in accordance with the JPS Clinical Job Specific Competency Validation Checklist.
Completes the requisite certification and courses within the required timeframes, to include but not limited to: Competency-based orientation program within 180 days of employment Antepartum/Gynecology, OB Triage and Labor and Delivery.
EKG course within 180 days of employment and maintained throughout employment for OB Triage and Labor and Delivery.
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring within 1 year of hire and maintained throughout employment for Antepartum/OB Triage/Labor Delivery.
AWHONN Advances Fetal Monitoring within 2 years of completing the Intermediate Fetal Monitoring and maintained every 2 years throughout employment for Antepartum/OB Triage/Labor Delivery.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment for Antepartum/OB Triage/Labor Delivery.
Competency based orientation program of level 2 neonatal intensive care within 30 days of employment and level 3 & level 4 neonatal intensive care within 120 days of employment for NICU.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Certification in the area of nurse specialty.

Responsibilities

Plans, assesses, directs, implements and provides quality patient care for assigned patients to include modifying nursing care, medication administration and discharge planning.
Provides education directed towards individualized patient needs utilizing the nursing process in coordination with policies and procedures.
Monitors changes in patient condition to include recording and reporting symptoms, assessing vital signs and intervening when appropriate.
Performs complete data collection from patient presenting complaints and pertinent history.
Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals, and discharges patients as appropriate with a written discharge plan.
Encourages family participation as appropriate for age and situation.
Delivers nursing care to patients including assessment and planning of education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge utilizing the nursing process.
Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer entering appropriate orders, patient charges, and or other information, meeting standards, policy, and procedures.
Delivers quality care by using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing the risk of infection, harm, or injury.
Maintains accurate detailed reports and records and directs care with regard to age and developmental stage, presenting complaint, and pertinent history.
Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plan, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication.
Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations, as applicable.
Performs additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.
