About The Position

This is a 12-month New Graduate Residency Transition-to-Practice Program for newly licensed registered nurses at Mercy Medical Center Redding. Residents receive professional and emotional support from experienced nurses serving as teachers, preceptors, mentors, and educators. The program includes an 18–24-week clinical immersion with a trained preceptor, followed by a mentorship experience through completion of the 12-month program. It is designed to develop critical thinking, evidence-based decision-making, stress management, and leadership skills to support safe, effective, high-quality patient care. Residents participate in interdisciplinary clinical rotations with departments including Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Wound Care, Radiology, Cath Lab, and Rapid Response. The program begins with three weeks of eight-hour days, five days per week, including didactic instruction, simulation, and hands-on skills training. Residents then work three 12-hour shifts with a dedicated preceptor in their assigned unit, alongside four additional hours of online and didactic content throughout the remainder of the program. After completing the program and competency validation, the graduate nurse moves into a full-time, benefited position in the assigned unit, working three days (36 hours) per week. Department assignments are determined by the interview team based on criteria such as background, work experience, additional education or certifications, and skills. Offers for department assignments are made before the program start date. The residency start date is February 8, 2027. The application period is October 12–16.
