To provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families. Essential Functions include Clinical advancement, Clinical judgment and decision making, Clinical leadership, Nurse-patient/family relationship. The role involves using systematic planning, appropriate methods, and timely exchange of information with the multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care. It requires the ability to focus on and manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care, actively communicate with the care team, and utilize available resources to problem-solve. The nurse will apply the nursing process and critical thinking to provide individualized, goal-directed patient care consistent with current safety standards. This includes identifying actual/potential problems, continuously evaluating interventions, making appropriate referrals, and collaborating on a comprehensive plan of care. The role also involves delegating and assigning care delivery processes, assessing physician orders, assisting coworkers, and serving as a patient advocate. Age-appropriate patient education, coordination of transfer and discharge planning, and collaboration on patient education materials are also key responsibilities. The position requires independent performance of the nursing process for patients with overt and subtle needs, and safe nursing care for patients in more complex situations with some assistance. Competency in unit skills and some advanced skills is expected, with potential for teaching skills. Coordination of patient care administered by other team members, potential assumption of relief charge nurse responsibilities, and preceptorship/professional development of new nurses and students are also part of the role. Safe use of common equipment and medications, recognition of inconsistencies in patient care, management of potential complications, and consistent organization and prioritization of workload are essential. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and demonstration of professional behavior are also required. The role promotes clinical effectiveness, efficient resource use, and quality care, transferring knowledge and mentoring others to improve clinical practice, and demonstrating complex problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
