About The Position

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for its Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). This 30-bed, high-acuity unit specializes in the care of patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including strokes, traumatic brain injuries, seizure disorders, and post-neurosurgical recovery. The RN will play a vital role in assessing and meeting diverse patient needs, focusing on pain management, medication administration, and patient/family education. The position involves evaluating nursing intervention outcomes, upholding hospital standards, and communicating effectively with physicians and nursing supervisors to ensure exceptional, patient-centered, holistic care within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. The NSICU is a leader in clinical research and offers opportunities for professional development and academic engagement, being part of the only academic health system in mid-Missouri and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Requirements

  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • One (1) year of RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative patient needs, including discharge planning.
  • Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report and symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.
  • Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.
  • Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Understands the attendance and punctuality guidelines, and adherence to the dress code.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Provides quality patient care and works with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
