The Butterworth OR is a level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital, featuring twenty-one operating rooms that provide 24/7 patient care and support procedures across the medical center. A multidisciplinary team of anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, surgical technicians, and support technicians collaborate to deliver high-quality, safe patient care. The surgical team is proficient in various specialties including orthopedic and neurosurgical trauma, acute care surgery, women’s health, urology, oncology, and general surgery. The department utilizes advanced care delivery technologies such as DaVinci and Rosa robotics, Stealth guided navigation, and intra-operative MRI technology, all focused on safe, efficient, patient-centered care. Butterworth Hospital, located in Grand Rapids, is a nationally recognized hospital for patient quality and safety, and a regional leader in full-service hospitals, with a reputation for excellence in care, diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and education since 1873. It serves as the flagship hospital for Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals. The Registered Nurse in this role acts as a service-line expert, familiar with all procedures in their department. The position is responsible for efficient surgical case completion, supporting direct patient care through a working knowledge of the technology, equipment, instruments, and supplies required for surgical procedures. The RN Navigator collaborates with all patient care providers to ensure cases are completed on schedule, reviews upcoming surgical procedures to coordinate staffing, imaging, and supplies, and develops standard work to enhance consistency and prevent delays. They also actively educate team members on the proper setup and use of equipment and technology, and proactively anticipate and problem-solve surgeon, patient, and team needs to ensure smooth case operations.
