About The Position

The Big Rapids Campus features a 22-bed medical-surgical unit and a 4-bed critical care unit, offering an ideal environment for new nurses to gain experience and advance their careers. The diverse patient population primarily consists of hospitalist medicine patients with various diagnoses such as pneumonia, COPD, cellulitis, kidney failure, and bowel obstructions. This allows for the development of acute care skills including IV placement, chest tubes, and NG tube management. The critical care unit frequently admits high-acuity patients with conditions like sepsis, hyperglycemia, and respiratory failure, requiring management of medication drips (e.g., insulin, vasopressors) and the use of equipment such as ventilators and BIPAPs. The Big Rapids unit has a cohesive team that collaborates with an interdisciplinary group including hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, nurse techs, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to ensure quality patient care. Experienced RNs work with the education team to provide a supportive onboarding experience for new hires and graduates. Scheduling is based on a six-week rotating core, allowing for advance planning of appointments and promoting work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing Required
  • Bachelors in Nursing Required within 5 years
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required within 90 days
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required within 6 months

Responsibilities

  • Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described professionally by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan.
  • Demonstrates competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Upholds the standards of professional performance as described by the ANA, including ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice and research, quality of practice, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Strives to achieve optimal outcomes.
