About The Position

The RN works on the 32-bed couplet-care Mother-Baby Unit at Beaumont, Dearborn, caring for families in a fast-paced setting with approximately 4,300 deliveries annually. The unit’s multidisciplinary team includes nurses, lactation consultants, educators, social workers, and other personnel.

Under the ANA scope of practice and the direction of the Nurse Leader, the RN uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge while providing professional, quality nursing care consistent with Corewell Health policies and procedures. The RN incorporates patient- and family-centered care, partners with patients and families to include their input and goals in care planning, develops teaching strategies, and documents education and learning in the health record.

Requirements

• Associate degree or diploma in nursing.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required within five years for new graduates or nurses with less than one year of experience.
• Graduates of a non-accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute-care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health-care role, and must have passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
• Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license required, or for new graduates, required within 60 days of hire.
• AHA, ARC, or Canadian Heart and Stroke Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within six months of hire or transfer.
• Highly preferred: at least six months of RN experience in Mother Baby, Labor and Delivery, or Gyn. Applicants with at least one year of recent acute-care RN experience will also be considered.
• Graduate nurses may be considered with Mother Baby Care Nurse Tech/Extern experience or Mother Baby Care immersion/preceptorship experience.

Nice To Haves

• Specialty certification is highly recommended within two years.
• At least six months of RN experience in Mother Baby, Labor and Delivery, or Gyn.
• For graduate nurses: Mother Baby Care Nurse Tech/Extern experience or Mother Baby Care immersion/preceptorship experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients using the nursing process.
• Provide professional, quality nursing care under the direction of the Nurse Leader and in accordance with Corewell Health policies and procedures.
• Incorporate patient- and family-centered care principles and recognize the effect of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes.
• Partner with patients and families to incorporate their input and goals into care plans.
• Develop teaching strategies for patients and families and document education and learning in the health record.
