About The Position

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at The George Washington University Hospital provides expert care for patients with complex, acute, and life-threatening medical conditions. Our team treats a wide range of diagnoses including sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, multi-organ dysfunction, and complex infectious diseases. The MICU is a dynamic environment where nurses gain expertise in ventilator management, advanced pharmacologic therapies, and multidisciplinary critical care collaboration. GW Hospital ICU Summary Medical ICU (MICU) – 32 beds: Complex medical critical care patients Surgical ICU (SICU) – 24 beds: Post-operative and surgical specialties Trauma ICU (TICU) – 20 beds: High-acuity trauma patients Neuro ICU – 20 beds: Neurological and neurosurgical care Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) – 24 beds: Advanced cardiac and ECMO care Job Summary Are you a dedicated and experienced Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Registered Nurse seeking an exciting opportunity in the heart of Washington, D.C.? Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or currently enrolled
  • Washington, D.C. RN license or eligibility
  • 2 years full-time (or 4 years part-time) critical care experience
  • BLS and ACLS required

Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence-based, compassionate care to critically ill medical patients.
  • Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, and continuous infusions; respond to rapid patient changes.
  • Partner with intensivists, specialists, respiratory therapists, and care teams to deliver comprehensive care.
  • Manage complex cases including multi-organ failure, sepsis, and respiratory distress.
  • Support patients and families through critical illness with empathy and education.
  • Ensure precise and timely charting of patient care.
  • Guide families through disease processes and recovery expectations.
  • Contribute to improving ICU outcomes and best practices.
