About The Position

This position involves utilizing the nursing process to care for patients, maintaining accurate patient records, and assessing patients throughout their hospital admission. The role includes developing and initiating care plans, communicating with allied patient care providers, and demonstrating proficiency in charge nurse duties and computerized nursing informatics. The nurse will also serve as a resource person for patient care, staff orientation, and teaching. Participation in unit staff meetings, mandatory programs, and patient care assessment activities is expected. The role requires assessing personal learning needs, maintaining professional development documentation, and staying updated on relevant techniques and regulations. Additionally, the nurse will represent the hospital in the community and within the institution by maintaining confidentiality and promoting hospital services. Other work-related duties may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • Pass CCHC Pharmacology Exam prior to start date
  • Pass CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam prior to start date
  • RN Residency & Transition (job code: 6004), must be completed within 3 months from start date
  • Med/Surg experience in an acute care facility within the last (2) two years
  • Per Diem: (2) Two years previous acute care med/surg experience required
  • Telemetry experience required (for North 3 Cardiac unit)
  • Obtain ACLS certification within 6 months (offered within) (for North 3 Cardiac unit)
  • Complete PCI (Cardiac Cath) Course within 3 months, offered within (for North 3 Cardiac unit)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Experience in the management of cardiac patients
  • ACLS certification
  • Recent telemetry experience
  • Med/Surg. certification
  • Experience managing post Cardiac Surgery/telemetry patients and post Cardiac Intervention patients including femoral sheath monitoring
  • Experience with post Cardiac Cath and post pacer patients

Responsibilities

  • Properly utilizes the nursing process in caring for patients by maintaining relevant, accurate and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Provides documentation of assessment of the patient throughout the Hospital admission including physical, psychological, social dimensions and discharge plans. Summarizes assessment data and initiate plan of care with communication of pertinent data to allied patient care providers as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
  • Understands, assumes, and demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems).
  • Assumes role of resource person regarding patient care, orientation and teaching staff.
  • Participates in at least four-unit staff meetings per year, attends mandatory programs and obtains three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit per year.
  • Participates in identification of the aspects of care for the patient, indicators used to monitor the quality and appropriateness of care, and the evaluation of that care. Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Assesses personal learning development needs. Maintains documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Regularly up-dates knowledge of techniques and regulations appropriate to the age of the patient served. Shows a willingness to participate on Nursing Committees.
  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters and by presenting the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided.
  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested his/her immediate supervisor.
