The RN develops teaching strategies for patients and families and documents education and learning in the health record. The role is based on a 31-bed unit dedicated to oncology and Med-Surg overflow. The unit schedules short stays for chemotherapy treatment, blood transfusions, bone marrow biopsies, and cardiac catheterization; also cares for surgical patients with epidurals and can accommodate telemetry patients. Nurse-to-patient ratios are based on acuity, census, and activity. The unit also covers the 8-bed infusion center on the third floor.
