About The Position

The 1E Med-Surg/Observation Unit at St. Anthony Hospital is a 22-bed department that handles over 300 patients monthly. This unit combines observation (14 beds) and inpatient (8 beds) status patients. Observation beds accommodate patients needing further observation from the ED, especially those with chest pain and abdominal pain, and patients from freestanding EDs. Patients requiring care longer than 24-48 hours are transferred to inpatient status. The department's mission is to provide safe, quality, timely care. It's a place to solidify med/surg skills, develop time management, and understand both ED and inpatient care. Nurses work with mid-level providers and care for diverse patient populations. The team culture is positive and close-knit, offering opportunities to learn about various disease processes. The hospital aims to support team members' nursing goals, education, and certifications. Requirements

Associates Degree in Nursing; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
Active and unencumbered RN License in state of employment
Medium Work exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. constantly
One year RN experience

Responsibilities

Facilitate, communicate, and collaborate with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
Advance modern nursing through compassionate care.
Promote optimal patient health, well-being, and safety through the nursing process.
Adhere to patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act.
Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care and the organizational mission.
Assess patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records & clinical data.
Evaluate patient’s response and intervene to ensure optimal patient outcome.
Develop and implement patient plan of care and observe outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including, but not limited to, IV’s, incision/wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.
Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
Document ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in an accurate, timely manner.
Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
Promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect the health and safety and rights of each patient.
Provide patient/family education through assessment of patient/family learning readiness, needs, and ability.
Provide teaching and evaluate effectiveness of teaching.
