About The Position

The 1E Med-Surg/Observation Unit at St. Anthony Hospital is a 22-bed department that handles over 300 patients monthly. This unit combines observation status (14 beds) and inpatient status (8 beds) patients. Observation beds accommodate patients requiring further observation from the ED, especially those needing more time for testing or monitoring than the ED can provide. Top diagnoses include chest pain and abdominal pain. Patients from surrounding free-standing EDs are also accepted. Patients requiring care longer than 24-48 hours are transferred to inpatient status. The department's mission is to deliver safe, quality, timely care. It's a great place for those interested in emergency medicine to solidify med/surg skills, develop time management, and understand both ED and inpatient care. Nurses work with a mid-level provider (PA or NP) and care for diverse patient populations. The team culture is positive and close-knit, offering opportunities to learn about various disease processes. The goal is to support team members' nursing goals, education, and certification. Ideal candidates are open, ask questions, are flexible, see the broader picture, and are fast learners. This is a fast-paced department with frequent admissions and discharges, requiring nurses to be adaptable and willing to work hard. Requirements

Associates Degree in Nursing; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
Active and unencumbered RN License in state of employment
Medium Work exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. constantly
One year RN experience

Demonstrating competency in a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including, but not limited to, IV’s, incision/wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.

Documenting ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in an accurate, timely manner.
Using information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
Promoting, advocating, and collaborating to protect the health and safety and rights of each patient.
