RN Med Surg Float Pool
About The Position

The Float Pool is challenging, fun and a great way to learn a lot of different skills, technology, disease processes and sub-specialties of various units. If you are independent, like variety, are flexible to change course quickly, a fast learner, comfortable asking questions and have previous hospital experience, it may be a good fit for you. You will know big picture of how the hospital works. There is a $2.00 hourly Float Pool differential on top of base pay (and any shift/weekend differentials). Abbott's Med Surg Float Pool can go to: Inpatient Rehab, Short Stay Observation, Med Surg Oncology, Med Surg GIGU, Med Surg Renal, the Med Surg Progressive Care Unit, Spine, Ortho, Neuro, Telemetry and Vascular Telemetry. The Med Surg Float Pool has a great team of RNs and NAs! This position is 0.9 FTE (72 hours per two-week pay period) with 12-hour permanent night shifts and every 3rd weekend rotation.
Requirements
- Associate's or Vocational degree
- Licensed Registered Nurse – MN Board of Nursing required if working in state of MN upon hire / WI Department of Safety & Professional Services required if working in the state of WI upon hire
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association OR Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross OR Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
- Previous hospital experience

Responsibilities
- Provides nursing care across patient care departments in alignment with the nurses experience and competencies.
- Comprehensive assessment of patient and family needs; identification of outcomes based on needs assessment; establishing the plan of care; supervising the progress; and modification of the plan of care as needed.
- Maintains education and competencies to remain proficient to provide high quality patient care practice and skills.
- Incorporates evidence-based nursing practice taking into consideration current statutes, rules and regulations when developing the plan of care.
- Establishes, in the collaboration with the family and patient, realistic and measurable patient expected outcomes based on nursing diagnoses, patients present and potential capabilities, goals, available resources and plan for continuity of care.
- Identifies outcomes that are age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
- Coordinates, collaborates, and delegates appropriately to ensure care is provided in a safe, effective fashion.
- Fulfills all organizational requirements.
- Demonstrates ability to coordinate, delegate, and direct unit operation, collaborates effectively with unit staff, leadership and other disciplines (when acting as Charge Nurse).
- Demonstrates ability to identify the orientee's learning needs, plans appropriate learning experiences and demonstrates ability to validate clinical competence of orientee (when acting as Preceptor).
