About The Position

Participates in patient care in a Med/Peds clinic under the supervision of the manager/director and in collaboration with the healthcare team. Supports clinic flow, prepares patients for examinations and procedures, performs approved non-complex procedures, administers prescribed medications and vaccinations, collects specimens, and may conduct point-of-care testing. Maintains patient records and medication inventory, supports equipment safety and infection-control practices, and helps ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Also assists with clinic preparation, obtaining and scanning outside medical records, answering and routing telephone calls, and communicating clinic activities and concerns to the clinic manager. The position works day shift and requires a valid Louisiana nursing license or temporary permit and American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification.

Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider certification.

Responsibilities

Measure and record vital signs according to departmental policy and patient age; identify abnormal values based on age and developmental level and report them to the appropriate medical provider.
Assist with clinic flow, including patient arrival, procedures, appointment scheduling, and patient exit.
Prepare patients for examination, treatment, and procedures; observe for signs of abuse or neglect and report immediately according to policy.
Recognize emergencies and respond according to organizational policy and procedure.
Perform non-complex procedures according to clinic policy and documented competency, such as simple dressing changes.
Address patient comfort needs with consideration for age and special needs.
Prepare equipment, test it for safety before use, and clean and disinfect it according to hospital policy.
Administer prescribed medications and vaccinations by the ordered route and according to department policy.
Collect, prepare, and secure specimens for point-of-care testing or transport; may perform point-of-care testing according to laboratory guidelines.
Maintain medication inventory, dispose of expired medications properly, store medications according to policy, and monitor medication and vaccine refrigerator/freezer conditions.
Document clinical tasks, tests, and procedures in the medical record; complete required paperwork, including waived-testing quality-control documentation.
Protect patient health information, use the electronic medical record to access results and records, update demographics, and schedule follow-up appointments.
Prepare safety reports when warranted or directed by the clinic manager or designee.
Assist others as needed, keep the clinic manager informed of activities and problems, and maintain patient confidentiality.
Support safety, environmental, infection-control, quality-improvement, and other regulatory requirements; maintain a clean clinic; use standard and transmission-based precautions and hand hygiene; report hazards; and participate in QAPI projects and EOC rounds.
Gather clinical documentation for provider review, obtain outside medical records, scan outside correspondence into the electronic medical record, and answer and route telephone calls promptly.
May operate computers, printers, scanners, and fax machines.
