About The Position

Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Nursing, the Nurse Manager has responsibility for the effective implementation of the philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the nursing department and their effect on patient care in the department. Oversees/provides for staffing plans / schedules; compliance with productivity targets. In conjunction with organizational strategic plans, identifies opportunities for departmental improvements and implements appropriate action plans to optimize department outcomes.  Provides departmental needs assessment; identifies goals, develops and implements action plans in order to achieve objectives.   Develops, revises and maintains departmental policies and procedures as indicates.  Promotes and maintains positive relations with continuum of care providers.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing required
  • BSN required
  • Current Nursing License from the state of Texas required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification must be completed upon hire.
  • The Registered Nurse must be PALS certified upon hire if the department is either PACU or ER.
  • 5 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Verbal and writing ability required to communicate effectively in informing employees of activities and policies.
  • Numerical ability required.
  • Ability to receive, comprehend, and carry out instructions; ability to work safely with equipment, supplies, and materials; ability to comply with attendance requirements; ability to comply with Human Resource policies.

Nice To Haves

  • In the ER department ENPC or TNCC certifications are also preferred.

  • Ability to monitor, maintain, and support unit compliance of regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policies.
  • Maintains current license and certifications as required by the position.
  • Responsible for ongoing development of self and staff.
  • Displays effective communication with all levels of staff.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing.
  • Maintains documentation of patient care services by auditing patient and department records.
  • Maintains nursing supplies inventory by studying usage reports; identifying trends;  anticipating needed supplies;
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
