About The Position

The RN Lead coordinates nursing activities for assigned clinical outpatient departments, providing clinical expertise in the nursing process. The RN Lead provides patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of patients. In the ambulatory setting, the RN utilizes a systematic approach by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the scope of practice defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing. The patient population consists of individuals experiencing psychiatric conditions.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
  • College Diploma: Nursing
  • Ambulatory nursing experience
  • Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care.
  • Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize is required.
  • Possesses strong knowledge and skills in Epic EMR system.
  • Demonstrates skills in education and training to improve the quality of nursing offered in the assigned departments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist provider and other clinical staff with obtaining basic vital information and preparing patients for examination and treatment.
  • May be required to draw and collect blood and other samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Apply Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) within licensure guidelines.
  • Perform telephone triage by providing and documenting advice for home care of illness/conditions and conducting follow-up phone calls regarding patient’s health and progress as necessary.
  • Schedule referrals for patients with specialists or outpatient services as requested by the provider.
  • Complete appropriate forms or requisitions needed for referrals or lab testing, including appropriate coding.
  • Understand outpatient specialty procedures.
  • Responsible for compliance with precertification requirements.
  • Responsible for tracking system for follow-up appointments related to office visits, laboratory tests, and procedures to regularly follow patients and monitor disease status.
  • Provide appropriate and timely documentation in the patient’s electronic health record using standardized workflows and processes.
  • Supervise delegated duties to LPN and CMA on approved clinical protocols.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, OSHA, DNV, Safety, and Risk Management guidelines.
  • Demonstrate initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Provide nursing input for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes within psychiatry service delivery.
  • Provide health and wellness education to patients and families using the Teach-back method per protocols and guidelines.
  • Provide and facilitate competent healthcare of patients and families in the area of practice.
  • Ensure adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
  • Monitor and oversee daily nursing workflow, including performing staff nurse duties to ensure adequate staffing and delivery of safe patient care.
  • Monitor all nursing quality initiatives and process improvement activities in the department.
  • Monitor clinical patient schedules and completion of clinical chart prep.
  • Guide and conduct staff education, competencies, orientation, and performance evaluations.
  • Facilitate, lead, and assist during crisis or safety events.
  • Lead and facilitate monthly clinical staff meeting(s).
  • Ensure nursing and medical assistant staff are highly trained and maintain BH clinical rooming standards.
  • Monitor and oversee ordering of department clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental and organizational policies/procedures and initiatives.
