About The Position

Beginning in October 2025, St. Anthony North Hospital will feature a 15-bed labor deck, an 18-bed postpartum unit, and a 7-9 bed Level II NICU capable of caring for infants 32 weeks and above, occasionally down to 30 weeks. Located conveniently off I-25, the facility handles all gestations and possesses the resources for delivery, stabilization, and transport. It also includes 3 triage beds and 2 OR suites. The hospital currently manages around 100 deliveries per month and anticipates significant growth, potentially doubling its census and deliveries with the addition of Kaiser. The dynamic unit offers opportunities for continuing education and role expansion, supported by a flexible self-scheduling process. Campus highlights include 60,000 square feet of integrated physician clinics, an ambulatory surgery center, a birthing center with private suites, a Level III Trauma Center with 24/7 emergency services, over 150 inpatient beds, and an outpatient diagnostics center. Requirements

Registered Nurse with a BSN.
Strong clinical expertise in lactation (including neonates).
Excellent assessment and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently.
Experience in adult learning principles.
Strong communication skills.
Commitment to supporting mothers and infants.
Associate's Degree in Nursing.
Three (3) years nursing experience.
RN License; Current state nursing licenses or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact.

Nice To Haves

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or Certified Lactation Counselor.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Prior lactation training and/or certification.

Responsibilities

Assess and manage breastfeeding mothers and babies, particularly those with problems or concerns, exercising independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of nursing processes and procedures.
Provide direct patient care.
Support training for new associates on breastfeeding techniques and standards of care.
Serve as a subject matter expert to relevant units.
Develop and present education for clients and hospital staff, demonstrating knowledge of lactation and adult learning principles within a complex healthcare environment.
Assess the lactating patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of records, and clinical data, then evaluates the patient’s response and intervenes in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient outcome.
Manage lactation issues and utilizes appropriate resources to solve problems for inpatients (OB, NICU, and PEDS populations) and for outpatients as needed.
Develop and update policies, procedures, standards of care, and guidelines for supporting and implementing the art of breastfeeding.
Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement holistic, individualized patient plans of care, observing outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and physician directions.
Support and educate colleagues so that the overall standard of breastfeeding care is improved.
Responsible for documentation of assessments, outcomes, and plans of care.
