About The Position

Responsible to Unit Director for overall nursing practice. Includes the responsibility for assessment of childbearing women (adolescence to middle adulthood), neonates, and family needs, the development of a plan of care to meet those needs, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of nursing care based on outcomes for the population served.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited registered nurse program required.
• Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
• Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
• Holds the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification and renews NRP every two years.
• Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.
• Requires strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient and family's developmental level, health status, and health history including sexual and reproductive history and identified learning needs.
• Performs initial assessment and stabilization of the neonate.
• Develops a plan of care based on identified physical and learning needs.
• Teaches self-care and/or the care of the newborn to patients and families.
• Promotes understanding of influence of family relationships on health status.
• Provides support and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines in the treatment and referrals of families at risk.
• Promotes an environment free of hazards to reproduction, growth and development, wellness, and promotes recovery from illness.
• Assists patients and families to understand and cope with women's health issues and childbirth.
• Accepts responsibility and accountability for maintaining knowledge, skills, and competency in the care of women and infants.
