About The Position

UR Medicine Finger Lakes Health is offering 13-week travel contracts for RNs at Geneva General Hospital. This position involves working in the ICU/Float Pool, with assignments potentially including Medical/Surgical, Emergency Room, and other units. The role requires applying nursing theory, technical, and communication skills to deliver high-quality, compassionate care. The Registered Nurse assesses patient needs, develops care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery. ICU nurses develop specialized skills for critically ill patients, gain knowledge of life support machines, cardiac monitoring systems, and other critical care equipment. Patient and family education for self-care beyond hospitalization, including lifestyle changes, is a key responsibility. The RN is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • BSN required.
  • Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Nurse
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS Basic Coronary Care certifications
  • 2-year ICU experience required.
  • Moderate Sedation Competency
  • Analytical skills to assess, prepare, implement and evaluate the outcomes of the plan of care of patients / families.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to deal with people in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
  • Computer literacy

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient need

  • Develops specialized skill to care for critically ill unstable patients
  • Develops a strong working knowledge of life support machines, cardiac monitoring systems and other life preserving medical equipment and nursing interventions essential for a critical care nurse
  • Accountable for patient family education to assist the patient and family in understanding self care beyond hospitalization including lifestyle changes to support health and healing
  • Promote comfort, and provide emotional support in a healing environment
