Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position is on a 27-bed acute care unit with a collaborative practice environment in a CARF accredited program for both general rehab and acquired brain-injured patients. People admitted to this unit have an acute medical management need and a condition or diagnosis resulting in a loss of or impairment in functional skills such as: mobility, cognition, activities of daily living and communication which requires an intensive therapy program to improve level of function. Patients participate in a minimum of three hours of therapy per day. Examples of diagnoses managed may be stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, multiple fractures, bi-lateral total joint replacement, amputation, multiple trauma and de-conditioning from a variety of medical and surgical events. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. The RN collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. The RN demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. The RN cares for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care. The RN is responsible for the planning and coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
