About The Position

Dialysis nurses provide care to all ages and a diversified population ranging from acute to chronically ill patients while adhering to strict, dynamic regulatory standards. During the hemodialysis (HD) procedure, the nurse is managing the patient’s clinical status, the venous access, the infusion of blood components or specialized fluids, and oversees the technical aspects of the HD machines. Additional responsibilities include providing patient/family/public education, overseeing dialysis technicians in the performance of dialysis from start to finish, performing surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water (such as chlorine, hardness, conductivity, water cultures), and participating in quality improvement activities to include collection of data for the dialysis unit Quality Assurance Improvement (QAI) plan.

Requirements

• One year experience in adult dialysis procedures required or One year experience in dialysis, including past dialysis technician experience.
• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (for BSN graduates) 30 days before start date.
• Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program (for ADN graduates) 30 days before the start date.
• Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
• Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License.
• BLS from AHA required.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Managing the patient’s clinical status during hemodialysis.
• Managing the patient’s venous access during hemodialysis.
• Managing the infusion of blood components or specialized fluids during hemodialysis.
• Overseeing the technical aspects of the HD machines.
• Providing patient/family/public education.
• Overseeing dialysis technicians in the performance of dialysis from start to finish.
• Performing surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water.
