About The Position

Provides nursing care, including triage, treatment and discharge care for the Emergency Department patients, from newborns to geriatrics. This position is represented by CNA.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree(A.S.) or equivalent: Required
  • One year in acute care experience: Required
  • Current RN license in state of practice: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS OR HS-ACLS OR RQIACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS OR HS-PALS OR RQIPALS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required within 6 months of hire or transfer
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice: Required
  • AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS: Required
  • AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS: Required
  • AHA-PALS or ARC-PALS: Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes accurate triage assessment on all patients and notifies the Emergency MD of all abnormal signs, symptoms and vital signs 100% the time.
  • Reviews and completes patient orders in a timely manner.
  • Provides medication side effects teaching to all patients who receive medication in the ED and always includes this teaching in discharge instructions.
  • Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies 100% of the time.
  • Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations.
  • Is competent in all routine nursing skills including: (1) medication administration, (2) intravenous therapy including blood products, (3) care & maintenance of indwelling catheters & drains and, (4) safe use of any medical equipment used in the critical care setting, (5) Understands and follows chain of command per policy.
  • Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life threatening emergencies in populations served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, able to make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation.
  • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and skill in providing care during Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma Activations.
  • Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient's response to medications, treatments & procedures.
  • Consistently performs necessary unit specific safety & quality control checks (i.e. crash cart checks, urine QC, difficult airway, Broselow cart, refrig logs & outdate checks).
  • Facilitates safe and timely coordination and collaboration with inpatient units when admitting patients from the ED.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
