About The Position

The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA), a Children's Psychiatric Hospital, is seeking experienced nurses for the RN II position. CCCA's mission is to serve children and adolescents by providing high-quality psychiatric diagnostic, evaluation, and treatment services in coordination with families, community services, and the professional community. The goal is to improve the lives of Virginia's youth and help them develop their fullest potential. The CCCA Nursing Department's mission is to skillfully assess children for medical and mental health concerns during acute psychiatric care. Registered Nurses are responsible for reporting accurate information to the psychiatrist, who will then provide direction on appropriate medication and treatment regimens for patients.

Requirements

  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to participate in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to lead educational groups.
  • Competent with TOVA, CPR.
  • Knowledge of lab values for children and adolescents.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Walking and/or standing for up to eight (8) hours or more.
  • Bending and lifting.
  • Ability to use TOVA techniques.
  • May be exposed to aggressive patients.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts and overtime hours or shifts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess children for medical and mental health concerns when admitted for acute psychiatric care.
  • Report accurate information to the psychiatrist.
  • Utilize knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric disorders, and the physical, psychological, and social needs of psychiatric children and adolescents to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Act as a resource person to communicate knowledge of the nursing process to other disciplines, community groups, and schools of nursing.
  • Apply knowledge to meet child and adolescent needs in an inpatient psychiatric setting.
