About The Position

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring and advanced life support. The ICU RN utilizes advanced clinical judgment, technical skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration to stabilize patients, manage complex therapies, and support patients and families during critical illness.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive and ongoing assessments of critically ill patients, including neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, and hemodynamic status
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, ventilator settings, oxygenation, and invasive lines
  • Administer and titrate IV medications such as vasopressors, sedatives, analgesics, insulin, and antiarrhythmics per protocol and provider orders
  • Manage and maintain central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, drains, and advanced airway devices
  • Provide ventilator management and collaborate with respiratory therapy
  • Recognize and respond to acute changes in patient condition and initiate emergency interventions (e.g., code response, rapid stabilization)
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other interdisciplinary team members
  • Provide patient and family education and emotional support during critical illness and end-of-life care
  • Adhere to evidence-based practice, infection control standards, and patient safety initiatives
  • Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, administration, and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
