Requirements

  • 3 years of experience as a charge nurse, clinical supervisor or nurse manager.
  • Valid license or temporary permit to practice professional nursing in Louisiana.
  • American Heart Association BLS-HCP.
  • Demonstrates leadership, managerial ability, good written/verbal communication skills.
  • Application of good interpersonal relationships, principles of supervision and administration.
  • Problem solving and crisis management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures smooth day to day operation of hospital on assigned shift: Carries out hospital/nursing policies, infection control/safety/environmental policies, procedures and standards.
  • Visits all patient care units to ascertain condition of patients, evaluate staffing needs and provide support to caregivers.
  • Coordinates and evaluates services rendered by and to all departments during the respective shift on an ongoing basis.
  • Keeps the leadership informed regarding circumstances or situations which have or may have serious impact.
  • Assesses physiologic, psychosocial educational and developmental needs of patients and families and intervenes as needed at all times of stress and crisis.
  • Serves as a main resource person on all nursing units for the hospital.
  • Provides administrative leadership of the hospital in the absence of administrative personnel: Administers the distribution and utilization of personnel employed during the respective shift.
  • Informs personnel on ensuring shifts regarding condition of patients, follow up actions required and any special conditions.
  • Evaluates and documents performance of employees as indicated and communicates this information to the appropriate department managers.
  • Evaluates accuracy of the acuity systems.
  • Ensures the professional development of self and staff: Participates and assists in the planning and providing of in-service education programs within the hospital or other meetings, seminars, or institutes conducted outside the hospital.
  • Participates in nursing meetings and in-service education functions.
  • Establishes and maintains communication between other nursing and ancillary departments for the purpose of problem solving: Participates on as assigned hospital and/or nursing committees.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing: Staff's patient care units according to staffing matrix, unit-specific needs and employee experience/expertise.
