J54 is one of seven Cardiovascular Intensive Care Units that specializes in heart and lung transplants, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), LVAD, Impella, coronary artery bypass surgery, and valve repair or replacement. All post-operative patients come directly from the operating room and are recovered, stabilized, weaned and extubated in these units. The units accept complex patients from other facilities that may have had surgical complications or those needing further evaluation for patients that other facilities may not have considered surgical candidates. The patient population is diverse with complex medical problems that may require IABP therapy and/or CRRT. A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation, from 7:00am—7:30pm and 7:00pm—7:30am.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment
  • One year current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care settings

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Passionate about cardiac care
  • Completion of a clinical rotation in a cardiac ICU
  • Strong cardiac and ICU experience and exposure

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and their families.
