About The Position

The RN - Hospice provides nursing care to hospice and palliative care patients in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The role focuses on assessing patients’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs; developing and evaluating individualized care plans; managing pain and symptoms; and supporting patients and families through end-of-life care. The nurse coordinates with an interdisciplinary team and documents assessments, care, and patient responses. The position is listed as contract/per diem, with day, evening, and night shifts available, and a start date of ASAP.

Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience.
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
• Ability to provide compassionate care in emotionally challenging situations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

• Hospice, palliative, oncology, or med-surg experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
• Manage pain and symptoms in accordance with physician orders and care plans.
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions safely and accurately.
• Provide education and support to patients and families regarding disease progression, care plans, and end-of-life needs.
• Coordinate care with physicians, social workers, chaplains, aides, and other team members.
• Monitor patient status and report changes promptly.
• Document assessments, care, and patient responses accurately and timely.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care planning.
• Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families during end-of-life care.
