The Float RN provides essential nursing support across the Pre-Operative, Operating Room (OR), and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) departments. This role is crucial for maintaining patient flow, ensuring patient safety, and contributing to the efficient daily operations of these critical areas. The Float RN will assess, develop, and implement comprehensive nursing care plans for pre-operative patients, meticulously record and report patient symptoms and changes, and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Responsibilities extend to preparing the OR, assisting the surgical team, performing surgical time outs, and ensuring effective communication among all team members. The role also involves diligent documentation, monitoring patient safety, assisting with room turnover, and adhering to all infection control, safety, and regulatory standards. Additionally, the Float RN verifies surgical consent, ensures all pre-operative work-up is complete, and communicates pertinent information to the OR nurse. The position requires independent functioning in emergencies, sound judgment, and maintaining patient confidentiality and psychological support for patients and families.
