About The Position

Piedmont Eastside Medical Center is seeking positive, self-motivated, engaged, and growth-oriented individuals to join their 38-bed Emergency Department team. This department sees an average of 160 patients daily with various acuities and serves as a primary Stroke and STEMI receiving facility capable of administering thrombolytics. The facility features two helicopter pads on campus. The department is organized into 5 PODs, with patients assigned based on acuity, including a dedicated Behavioral Health Pod. The team consists of Charge Nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians, and Unit Secretaries who collaborate with ED Providers to deliver exceptional care. All staff require BLS, and RNs must have ACLS and PALS. NIH certification is highly preferred and must be obtained within an allotted timeframe.

Requirements

  • All staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit.
  • RN’s must have ACLS and PALS required.
  • Graduate from a recognized, accredited school of nursing
  • RN - Registered Nurse - Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure
  • Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support
  • ACLS and PALS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)Experienced Emergency Department nurses will have 6 months to obtain the PALS certification. within 180 Days

Nice To Haves

  • NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions
  • CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred
  • Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification – prior to independent chemotherapy administration
  • PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • PEARS or PALS Certification - required at Piedmont Athens Hospital (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU – ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date)
  • OR – BLS required only
  • Labor and Delivery-ACLS Certification - (Nurse Residents or nurses new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date) NRP by the end of orientation period, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months of start date
  • Mother/Baby- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • NICU- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • NAT (Newborn Admission Team)- NRP by the end of orientation period
  • Nursery- NRP by the end of orientation period

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessments to include collection of data regarding the patient’s physical, psychosocial and health history.
  • Appropriately evaluates the developmental age of the patient when performing assessments, treatments and patient/family education.
  • Organizes patient data into the formulation of a plan of care; identifies additional information needed and makes care decisions based on identified needs. Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Carries out plan of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides patient care that is specific to the setting, identified needs and plan; ensures that the care provided is appropriate to the severity of the disease, condition, impairment or disability.
  • Oversees activities of ancillary and support team members.
  • Identifies teaching opportunities and provides the resources necessary for achieving the educational goals of the patients.
  • Communications issues/concerns to the Charge Nurse, Clinical Manager and/or physician as appropriate.
  • Documents patient care and concerns in the patient record.
