About The Position

This role involves utilizing the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care in the Emergency Department. The Registered Nurse (RN) will assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes. This includes performing complete admission assessments, conducting full body system analyses, and administering care according to patient type (Acute, Observation, ER, SNF, Outpatient). The RN will effectively manage healthcare provider orders, respond promptly to patient needs, recognize and act on changes in patient condition, and serve as a patient advocate. Responsibilities also include performing patient rounding, evaluating progress towards outcomes, and delivering competent, professional, and compassionate care, including intravenous interventions.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current PALS certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an Emergency Department setting.
  • Proficiency in the nursing process.
  • Ability to perform complete admission assessments and comprehensive nursing assessments.
  • Knowledge of various patient types (Acute, Observation, ER, SNF, Outpatient).
  • Ability to review, discuss, and implement healthcare provider orders.
  • Skill in recognizing abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition and taking appropriate action.
  • Ability to serve as a patient advocate.
  • Experience with patient rounding and evaluating patient progress.
  • Competent in delivering professional and compassionate patient care.
  • Proficiency in providing intravenous interventions.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with healthcare providers and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to direct patient support team members effectively.
  • Demonstrated initiative and flexibility.
  • Ability to inform Lead Nurse or Nurse Manager of patient care issues.
  • Assistance with patient assignments, admissions, and staffing needs.

  • Adherence to emergency policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Ability to administer medications, treatments, and procedures safely.
  • Proficiency in standard precautions, using two patient identifiers, and performing risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics, transfer, and lifting techniques.
  • Understanding of infectious disease controls and isolation procedures.
  • Knowledge of proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to oversee care delivery and staffing needs.
  • Knowledge of treatments, policies/procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to respond to patient/family concerns and provide interventions.
  • Adaptability to changes in workload and ability to maintain quality care.
  • Willingness to initiate and perform duties not directly assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process for patient care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.

  • Performs emergency treatment as required in accordance with RN scope of practice.
  • Initiates or assists in patient care in an effective and responsive manner.
  • Triage's each emergency situation appropriately and involves other resources as appropriate.
  • Administers and performs emergent care in accordance with applicable patient population type (newborn to geriatrics).
  • Follows emergency policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Performs and maintains documentation, including accurate and ongoing assessments, interventions, patient responses, teaching, and discharge status.
  • Completes shift end check prior to leaving duty.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, nursing plan of care, and patient satisfaction needs.
  • Follows approved shift report format when communicating patient information.
  • Appropriately reports condition changes to medical provider.
  • Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety.
  • Administers medications, treatments, and procedures in a timely and safe manner.
  • Performs standard precautions, uses two patient identifiers, and performs patient risk assessments every shift.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer, and lifting techniques.
  • Implements infectious disease controls, including isolation procedures, hand hygiene, and glove use.
  • Follows proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.
  • Performs duties as assigned or requested by department leader.
  • Oversees care delivery and staffing needs and assignments on the nursing unit.
  • Provides secure pharmacy coverage.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of treatments, policies/procedures, and equipment.
  • Responds to patient/family concerns and provides immediate interventions.
  • Adapts to changes in workload and completes assignments while maintaining quality care.
  • Initiates and performs duties that need to be completed although not directly assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
