About The Position

The role of the Emergency Care Unit (ECU) overflow nurse is to provide inpatient medical, surgical, telemetry, and stepdown level of care to patients admitted to the hospital from the Emergency Department (ED). The Overflow Nurse will care for the admitted patients in the dynamic, fast-paced, high-patient turnover environment. The overflow nurse will advance the inpatient plan of care in coordination with the admitting team, case management and ED Charge Nurse.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in the state
  • One year of nurse experience required
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Successful course completion in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • ACLS/PALS required
  • Successful course completion of institutional Intermediate EKG Course
  • Annual completion of competency requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Department experience Preferred
  • Successful course completion of Advance Cardiac Life Support course preferred; with exception of Special Procedures- where this is required
  • Experience in operating personal computers, including operation of computer software in a Windows environment (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • This position will work in conjunction with the Emergency Department.
  • Responsibilities will include caring for admitted Emergency Department patients while they wait for an inpatient bed.
  • If unit is closed, staff will return to the Emergency Department to assist with care of Emergency Department patients.
