About The Position

The RN Educator is responsible for maintaining and implementing an orientation program that aligns with current clinical practice standards in the endoscopy setting for all new staff. This role acts as a liaison between new staff, current employees, and the Director, while also developing and coordinating educational activities for the department. These activities include continuing education for staff and orientation to new equipment and procedures. The educator serves as a resource for policies, procedures, SGNA standards, regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, OSHA), and suggests updates as needed. They also act as a professional role model, assist staff with professional development, and support departmental Performance Improvement projects. Additionally, the RN Educator coordinates BLS, ACLS, and PALS training, point of care testing competencies, and the competency evaluation plan for Endoscopy staff. They are expected to routinely perform procedures in the Endoscopy area to maintain visibility and interaction with staff and physicians, and participate in the development, implementation, and review of policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Possession of a current or compact state license as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

  • Certification encouraged within three years of appointment to position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains orientation program, which is current with the standards of clinical practice in the endoscopy setting and implements it for all new staff.

  • Acts as professional role model and assists staff (especially preceptors) in professional development.
  • Supports and participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects.
  • Coordinates BLS, ACLS and PALS training of department staff.
  • Coordinates point of care testing competencies for Endoscopy staff.
  • Actively participates in meetings and on inter-, intradepartmental, and external committees as assigned.
  • Coordinates and implements plan for competency evaluation of Endoscopy staff.
  • Routinely performs procedures in the Endoscopy area maintaining a high level of visibility and interaction with both staff and physicians.
  • Serves as a resource and role model in clinical practice.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and review of policies and procedures that guide and support Endoscopy.
