About The Position

This is a contract role for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN) in Great Falls, MT. The position is for a 10-bed unit that handles immediate post-operative open-heart patients. The hospital is expanding its cardiac services and requires a Critical Care Trained Nurse to manage higher acuity patients. The role involves providing care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a cardiac medical surgical unit, offering physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support. Anticipated patient populations include pediatrics, pre and post PCI care, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and a broad scope of surgical services. Staff will care for patients in relative stability while recognizing diagnoses may require skilled assessment and intervention for potential deteriorating conditions. The role requires operating advanced medical equipment, including central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, A-lines, multiple IVs, and patients requiring short-term ventilation support, as well as general medical and surgical patients. The nurse will have the ability to assess and implement established policies and procedures with minimal supervision, act as a clinical leader, assist with precepting staff, and provide direct care from admission to discharge, including discharge planning.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent And Degree from an Accredited Nursing Program
  • Critical care, CVICU, and open-heart experience preferred.
  • Use of basic office equipment, use of multiple IV pumps, ability to operate advanced medical equipment, including A- lines, invasive lines, chest tubes, patients requiring noninvasive and invasive ventilatory support, basic cardiac telemetry and EKG interpretation.
  • Recent Critical Care experience
  • Current State of Montana RN Licensure, BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Montana/Compact State.
  • Current BLS, ACLS & PALS certification from AHA.
  • Minimum 2 Years of Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Recent Open Heart Recovery Nurse Experience Required.
  • Trained to take care of immediate post-operative open-heart patient required- first day.

Responsibilities
