Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma from an Accredited Diploma Program or Associate or higher Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state within 90 days.
  • RN I: 6 months -1.99 years of relevant experience.
  • RN II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
  • RN III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
  • RN IV: 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of background screening.
  • Successful completion of unit specific competency-based orientation program within 90 days.
  • Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and must be maintained throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Certification in the area of nurse specialty.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, assesses, directs, implements, and provides quality patient care for assigned patients, including modifying nursing care, medication administration, and discharge planning.
  • Provides education tailored to individual patient needs, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Monitors changes in patient condition, records and reports symptoms, assesses vital signs, and intervenes as appropriate.
  • Performs complete data collection from patient complaints and relevant history.
  • Collaborates with patients to identify treatment plan goals and discharges patients with a written discharge plan.
  • Encourages family participation as appropriate.
  • Delivers nursing care including assessment and planning of education for identified knowledge deficits, treatment, pain management, and discharge.
  • Documents accurately in medical records, on forms, and in the computer, meeting all standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Delivers quality care using multi-disciplinary team strategies and minimizing risks of infection, harm, or injury.
  • Maintains accurate detailed reports and records, directing care with regard to age and developmental stage.
  • Works to maintain good rapport and cooperative working relationships with physicians, departments, staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Anticipates deteriorating life sign patterns or equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
  • Modifies patient treatment plans based on patient responses and conditions.
  • Collaborates with patient care team members on patient care plans, incorporating consistent use of hand-off communication.
  • Conducts and coordinates patient care and patient transfers in accordance with EMTALA regulations.
  • Performs additional department-specific functions as outlined in department procedures.
