The RN, Clinical Document Spec facilitates clinical documentation improvement through concurrent and retrospective interaction with physicians and members of the healthcare team. This interaction supports the clinical severity of the inpatient admission, quality documentation standards that align with federal and state regulations and assists with maximizing revenue. The role involves recognizing gaps and facilitating modifications in clinical documentation that support the accuracy of medical conditions for inpatient encounters, utilizing computer software to identify documentation opportunities, and conducting clinical documentation improvement efforts through query processes. The position also provides oversight of EPARC, including UM and unbilled work queues, communicates with physicians and the medical team to ensure complete and accurate documentation, and presents findings to key stakeholders. Education is provided to peers and healthcare team members on documentation improvement, reimbursement opportunities, and overall performance. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of trends in clinical diagnoses that result in payer denials, ensuring data validity for reporting and measuring outcomes, and auditing clinical documentation. The individual must meet established productivity expectations and maintain knowledge of hospital clinical practice guidelines. Other duties as assigned.
