About The Position

This role is for an RN Clinical Coordinator in the Operating Room at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. The hospital has a long history of providing healthcare in southwest Kansas. The RN Clinical Coordinator will support the department director/manager by coordinating clinical and department activities for the unit. This role is not a supervisory or management position but serves as a clinical nurse and resource to the staff. Responsibilities include authorizing work procedures, assigning duties, and acting as shift charge. The position involves demonstrating strong clinical judgment, ensuring high-quality care, facilitating communication between physicians and the patient care team, and promoting cooperation with staff and other departments. The coordinator will provide input on coaching, mentoring, and performance management to the director/manager. They will be accountable for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet patient needs, acting as a professional role model, and promoting patient well-being and safety. The RN will actively serve as a registered nurse on the unit and may take patient assignments. The role is also eligible for the Clinical Ladder. The department includes 4 OR Suites and 1 GI suite, handling approximately 250-300+ cases per month. The schedule is 40 hours per week with variable shifts based on surgical volume and unit needs, and includes required call approximately 5-7 shifts per month, with a 30-minute callback radius. A sleeping room is available.

Requirements

  • At least six months of direct RN experience.
  • One year RN experience in operating room required.
  • RN License to practice in state of employment as applicable, required.
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (Nursing Diploma or by endorsement) required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of direct clinical experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous leadership/ charge experience highly preferred.
  • BSN, preferred.
  • Nursing Specialty Certification, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Actively support the department director/manager by coordinating clinical and department activities for the unit.
  • Serve as a clinical nurse and resource to the staff.
  • Authorize work procedures and assign duties.
  • Perform shift charge duties.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and ensure high-quality care delivery to each patient.
  • Act as a vital link between physicians and the patient care team to facilitate seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Maintain communication and promote cooperation with unit staff and other departments.
  • Provide input and recommendations to the director/manager on coaching, mentoring and performance management of associates.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
  • Act as a professional role model for all staff by demonstrating ethical/legal/professional nursing.
  • Promote the optimal health, well-being, and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines, and the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Actively serve on unit as a registered nurse and may take patient assignments based on unit and patient needs and acuity.
  • Be personally accountable for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
  • Maintain the day-to-day efficiencies of the OR.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of educational programs/practices for department associates.
  • Act as leadership within the department.
  • Act as liaison between surgeons and staff.
  • Assist with training staff and evaluating competency.
  • Oversee supplies and instruments necessary for service line.
  • Create and update preference cards.
  • Assist with staffing.
  • Help out in the rest of the OR on occasion.
